Please do not attempt my meditative walking exercise without carefully reading my blog post (along with its disclaimer) that deals with this which has a link provided at the very end of this blog post!
I dislocated my arm while doing a meditative walk at night in a poorly lit area of Houston TX with a dog harassing me on Easter Eve 2018! My foot hit an elevated driveway that intercepted the sidewalk I was on and I fell to an even lower elevation on the other side and came to an absolute abrupt stop with all the shock being absorbed by my right arm and shoulder! The pain was extremely intense, but I managed to walk home and then figure out I needed to go to the VA Hospital! They did go to the effort to relocate the shoulder, and I thought they had fixed it. I went back to the VA later with a ride with someone else who was also in pain and with no parking available we gave up and went back home. The shoulder I found out later was still dislocated, so it may not have ever been relocated in a way that was secure or could have been secure. Anyway I was really careful and do not believe I did anything that would have re-dislocated my arm if it had any stability to it. I believe I had a lot more damage than just a simple dislocation! I did do a meditative slow run after one day off, since I needed to keep my fitness or my life’s work and purpose would have been severely set back. I had swelling in my arm near the right elbow and right foot and felt nausea for some time, so believe other damage to my body had created toxicity in my body. The exercise along with the elimination of salt from my diet, I think helped me get rid of the swelling.
I was not young(67 at time) so coming back from such a traumatic accident would not be easy especially for someone as neurologically differently abled as me. I must be extra healthy/fit to handle the pressure that is automatic and that affects my health and survival here in a world that is so spiritually insensitive to the needs of someone like me! I have always been fighting for my survival in this world and this could have been the last straw, had I not made the efforts I did to come back from this accident. I know the shoulder was not in the right position after leaving the VA Hospital because I could not move it so I could rest it on my chest so I would be able to sleep at night without severe discomfort! I did have to sleep sitting up for some time after the accident and I did not take pain killers except for a very short time after the accident, since I always felt it was important to feel pain and not numb it! I have dealt with a lot of pain in the past this way and had meditative techniques I used to handle it. I believe we can learn to handle and pain no matter how severe, since our own body creates it. I have previous blog posts on my self-rehab program. Here is my previous one: https://astrogoodwin.wordpress.com/2018/11/22/update-on-shoulder-dislocation-recovery-problem/
I did continue to rehab my shoulder especially after I found out when in Las Vegas that it was still dislocated and an operation was not a good option! I continued to stretch it many different ways with increasing intensity until it could take almost my whole weight with my arm holding on top of refrigerator. I worked up to exercising the right arm with a 20 lb dumbbell even exercising as high as it would go while guided by left arm for safety reasons. My right arm now is in some ways stronger than my left due to compensation and does not really hurt when pushed to its limits!!
I have trained my body’s muscles so now when doing my meditative exercises I can now jerk my shoulders(including my still partially dislocated right shoulder) upward with great intensity which does allow for more blood flow to the brain and helps create the side to side movement that enables me to do quick careful steps which I do in rhythm with my in and out intensely rapid breathing! The intense shoulder movement and the muscular development that come with it does help me increase the intensity of the exercise while helping my body safely handle the tension that is created by it! I tend to focus on 5 steps at a time, so I can really stay more in the moment and keep trying to put as much intensity in each of these periods of focused movement. Here is my blog post that goes further into the type of meditative exercises I developed and do: https://astrogoodwin.wordpress.com/2019/03/19/how-i-do-my-latest-meditative-run-and-walk/
My astrology system has Jupiter(individual fire)=action, the Sun(universal air)=thinking, The Galactic Center(universal water)=spirit-feeling, all connected to exact aspects to Moon(universal earth)=physical reality, with all these aspects being the last one to the Moon happening before birth. In meditative movement exercises one needs to combine intense action with up and down shoulder movement and quick short foot movement(fire)with intense rapid breathing with mouth movement(air), with a focus on ones feelings and intuition. These three elements must become grounded in the physical reality we exist in in order to make the meditation function well in the challenging world we live in, hence the connection of them to the Moon(universal earth) in my astrology system. The physical reality is what keeps us grounded and able to survive in a very challenging world. When we meditate we need to mobilize our serious survival(grounding) energy by putting an intense focus on doing very careful precise footwork. This precise footwork should mobilize your vigilant energy which should help you to quiet your mind more so that you can focus strongly on your surroundings similar to a cat doing its crouching movement while hunting. I combine my meditative walk with short sprints that I do whenever they help me avoid distractions or possible dangers! The Moon(universal earth) does connect to the Midheaven(personal water/spirit) which reaps the end result of this action in advancing ones spiritual development! One spiritual programming needs to advance with beliefs/theories that are better able to connect with this physical reality we exist in right now! This reality is very challenging and at time can challenge us with a lot of discomfort or pain. We have to have spiritual beliefs that put the focus very strongly on the type of challenging reality we exit in and away from anything that represents escaping from it. I have blog posts all about this on this site!
